Thermo-hydro-mechanical interactions in porous media: Implications on thermo-active retaining walls

چکیده

Thermo-active structures exchange heat with the ground to provide thermal energy buildings. Consequently, is subjected changes in temperature, inducing thermo-hydro-mechanical (THM) interactions within soil. To insights into origin and manifestations of main mechanisms taking place complex fully THM-coupled finite element (FE) analyses, simple, one-dimensional problems are firstly analysed this paper compared analytical expressions developed for determining thermally-induced excess pore water pressures undrained different displacement restraints. Subsequently, various dimensionless parameters established evaluate impact varying properties on observed THM their evolution time. Finally, findings from simple verified context modelling thermo-active retaining walls, where structural response walls shown be highly transient influenced by phenomena prevailing over periods involving expansion soils, volumetric deformations due generation dissipation, mechanical boundary conditions. The results also highlight importance performing coupled analyses a correct estimation hydraulic guarantee safe design structures.

Thermo-hydro-mechanical Coupling in Clay Barriers

A complete thermo-hydro-mechanical model is presented to tackle the complex coupling problems encountered in clay barriers. A detailed formulation coupling the heat, moisture (liquid water and water vapour) and, air transfer in a deformable unsaturated soil is given. The formulation of the AlonsoGens’s mechanical model for unsaturated soil is also incorporated. The sensitivity to some parameter...

Coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical model for porous materials under frost action: theory and implementation

This paper introduces the development and implementation of a multiphysical model to simulate the coupled hydro-thermo-mechanical processes in freezing unsaturated porous materials. The model couples the Fourier’s law for heat transfer, the generalized Richards’ equation for fluid transfer in unsaturated media, and the mechanical constitutive relationship. Coupling parameters were defined to tr...

Thermo- and hydro-mechanical processes along faults during rapid slip

Field observations of maturely slipped faults show a generally broad zone of damage by cracking and granulation. Nevertheless, large shear deformation, and therefore heat generation, in individual earthquakes takes place with extreme localization to a zone <1–5 mm wide within a finely granulated fault core. Relevant fault weakening processes during large crustal events are therefore likely to b...

Preliminary laboratory thermo - hydro - mechanical characterization of Opalinus clay

1 INSTRODUCTION In the concept of geological radioactive waste disposal, argillite is being considered as a possible host rock in various countries such as France and Switzerland. This material is chosen thanks to its extremely low permeability that is required to limit the transfer of radioactive elements from the waste package towards the environment. During the construction and exploitation ...
